Working with Gibson International Ltd, Tilt Architecture was engaged to help develop a fully-immersive and captivating visitor experience showcasing the local stories of whenua (land), people, culture, and creatures who inhabit this unique landscape.
Our scope involved creating a layout of spaces and finishes (including rockwork and a simulated ocean blowhole!), a visitor flow assessment, and detailed design of the internal fitout. We worked in conjunction with Story Writers, Projection, Sound and Lighting Specialists, Set Fabricators, Consultants and the Construction team to develop a detailed 3D model and documentation set for construction. We commenced work on the project in 2019, worked through the Covid pandemic, and finally attended the formal opening in November 2024.
This experience celebrates the many aspects of the Paparoa National Park and Te Tai Poutini – West Coast. It’s an exciting addition to the Pounamu Pathway and other activities for visitors to the region.
